Transition Support
Kindergarten Orientation
The counselor and teachers meet with the upcoming kindergarten students and provide a variety of play and learning experiences.
Orientation to Sixth Grade
At the end of fifth grade, students meet with the sixth grade homeroom teachers, subject area teachers, counselor and upper grade students to learn the specifics about middle school and to have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. Parents of fifth graders attend a program in which the chief school administrator, vice principal, upper grade teachers, and the school counselor describe the changes that will occur for them and their children over the next three years. The counselor updates the Sixth Grade Orientation PowerPoint annually.
High School Preparation
All eighth graders have an orientation to Princeton High School which includes an overview of Princeton High School led by the high school counselors at Cranbury School, registration for classes held at Cranbury School, and a visit to Princeton High School during the summer. Parents of eighth graders are also invited to a parent orientation at Princeton High School.
Welcoming Guides Program
Grades 1-8
Every new student is paired with a classmate who volunteers to be a Welcoming Guide and is recommended by teachers or counselor. Middle school students are paired with guides whose schedules are similar to theirs. All students who are new to Cranbury School in September are invited to participate in an orientation program a day before school opens.
